Via: KPRC Click2Houston

I must say this is an extensive amount of information as to what toxins were discovered in the fish? Must be some bad stuff for an all out ban request.

From the article:

A fish advisory is in effect for Lake Livingston and parts of the Trinity River.

The advisory comes after health workers found high toxic levels in fish samples.

The advisory is for seven types of fish: blue catfish, flathead catfish, freshwater drum, gar, smallmouth buffalo, striped bas and white bass.

Officials are asking people to not eat the fish.

The usual suspects. Dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs

The Texas Department of State Health Services today issued a fish consumption advisory for Lake Livingston and portions of the Trinity River after laboratory testing of fish samples found elevated levels of dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs.

The Lake Livingston advisory is for seven types of fish – blue catfish, flathead catfish, freshwater drum, gar, smallmouth buffalo, striped bass and white bass. The advisory is in effect for the Trinity River Basin which includes Lake Livingston and the Trinity River from U.S. 287 downstream to U.S. 90.

Regular or long-term consumption of fish from these waters may increase the likelihood of long- term health risks. People can still fish in the area, though they should not consume or should limit their consumption of fish from this area and are advised to follow the specific age and species recommendations in this chart:

COAST GUARD SEARCHING FOR MISSING FISHERMAN BOLIVAR TEXAS

The Coast Guard and Texas EquuSearch are looking for 54 yo. Tim Millender. His family reported him missing early Monday afternoon.

According to the Coast Guard, Millender’s boat was found abandoned with its engine still on just off the Bolivar Peninsula. A witness spotted the 19-foot skiff with no one on board, doing circles out in the water before eventually stopping after running out of gas.

Anyone who has seen Millender or has information to help the search effort is urged to contact the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center at 281-464-4854 or on the radio at VHF Marine Channel 16.

NEW U.S. NAVY USS ZUMWALT DESTROYER

Via: Popsci.com

Meet the brand spankin new USS ZUMWALT. Built to carry railguns and laser weapons that don’t quite exist yet, the sleek destroyer has a weird stealthy body.

The vessel sports two 155mm guns for use against large ships, housed in smooth couplings to minimize radar signature. There are also a couple of 30mm guns, which are smaller (and slower firing) than the guns originally planned for the ship, so it can defend itself against smaller attack craft. These are all secondary to the ship’s main weapon, which includes 20 missile system bays that can hold at least four missiles each.

I’d buy that for a dollar. Check out the ZUMWALT on its maiden voyage.
